In the United States alone, there are more than 200,000 Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injuries, with approximately 100,000 of those requiring reconstruction surgery, an operation that costs on average $11,500. Approximately 2.6% of those that undergo reconstruction surgery will continue on to reinjure their ACL with two-thirds of them injuring the opposite knee . This statistic does not take into account the thousands of individuals that wear a knee brace as a preventative measure, unaware of the fact that their knee pain may be an undiagnosed ACL injury, minute or otherwise. Additionally, to get an MRI scan, which is the absolute method for diagnosing ACL injuries, costs $1,121 on average. By developing an actively monitoring rehabilitative knee brace, we hope we can reduce the number of reinjuries and save patients both money and further pain or irreversible damage. |
COMPETITORS
The Kneed Technologies Smart Sleeve design is unique from other braces on the market because it utilizes wearable sensor technology. While typical braces used for recovery are still in use, there is a strong movement of the market towards wearable health technology for recovery, fitness, tracking, and general health monitoring.
